Hi, my name is Ansebe (she/her), a Licensed Mental Health Couselor (LMHC) and owner of Smit Counseling PLLC. I provide individual therapy for adults across Washington State who are navigating identity, relationships, and major life transitions.
With over 10 years of experience in mental health, I specialize in working with queer individuals- including those exploring coming out later in life- as well as immigrants and first-generation adults balancing cultural expectations and evolving identities. As someone who holds queer and immigrant identities, I understand how layered and complex this journey can feel.
You may be feeling anxious, emotionally drained, or disconnected in your relationships. You might be questioning long- held roles, navigating parenting through identity shifts, renegotiating partnership dynamics, or trying to live more authentically while honoring your cultural roots. I work with individuals and couples who want deeper clarity, self-trust, and more aligned relationships.
I offer LGBTQ+ affirming, culturally responsive Telehealth therapy throughout Washington State.
WELCOME
I am so glad that you’re here!
Therapy with me is collaborative, client-led and attachment-focused. I offer a warm and supportive space where we explore patterns in your life and relationships that may be contributing to anxiety, stress, or emotional overwhelm.
Together we will:
Identify relational or communication cycles that keep you stuck
Explore how past experiences influence present decision making
Strengthen emotional awareness and self-trust
Build healthier ways of expressing needs and setting boundaries
Increase authenticity and connection in your relationships
You don’t need to have everything figured out. Just a willingness to begin.

Individual Therapy
I work with adults who are navigating:
Anxiety and Chronic Stress| Life Transitions| Identity Exploration| People Pleasing and Co-dependent patterns| Grief and Loss| Depression| Living more Authentically
Our work centers on building clarity, emotional balance, and a stronger relationship with yourself.
Relational Work (Couples and Family Therapy)
Relationships can be deeply meaningful- and deeply challenging.
I support romantic partners and families who want to:
Improve Communication| Break Negative Cycles and Recurring Conflicts| Increase Intimacy and Emotional Closeness| Better Understand and Express Needs| Navigate separation, divorce, or blended family dynamics
My work is relationally focused, meaning we look at patterns between people-not just within individuals
Queer Identity and Coming Out Later in Life
Coming out later in life can bring both relief and grief. It can impact partnerships, family relationships, parenting, community ties, and your sense of self.
As a queer person who came out later in life, I bring lived understanding of:
Identity shifts| Internalized shame or confusion| Navigating mixed orientation relationships| Rebuilding authenticity| Finding belonging| Navigating co-parenting
You deserve a space where you don’t have to defend or justify who you are.
Parenting Support
Parenting is layered, especially when culture, religion, divorce, blended families, or identity considerations are part of the picture.
I offer grounded support around:
Challenging behaviors| Emotional regulation, Co-regulation, and Connection| Staying Consistent while Maintaining Warmth| Parenting Through Separation or Divorce| LGBTQ+ Family Dynamics| Cultural and Intergenerational Considerations
Immigrant and First Generation Experiences
As a first generation immigrant, I understand what it feels like to live between cultures.
You may be:
Far From Your Country or Extended Family| Navigating Acculturation Stress| Balancing Cultural Expectations with Personal Values| Exploring Identity Outside of the Family or Community Norms| Searching for Belonging
Therapy can be a space where you don’t have to explain your cultural complexity-it’s already understood.
